I think the real save of money comes from having a fixed water heater. It is nice that you can save money on the repair but leaving a broken water heater unattended can have some bad results. One time, our water heater broke really badly and put water everywhere. It destroyed the carpet and got some mold in some places. It's interesting to know that water heaters over ten years old are past their effective lives. It would be great to save some money on energy with a better heater.
